The Temple Gallery is pleased to announce The 2007 Artist Invitational exhibition, The Young and The Restless, featuring the work of Tucson ArtWORKS! Academy students. The gallery is excited to partner with ArtWORKS! and provide students a real gallery experience, where students can display and sell their work, as well as learn how an art gallery is run.

The terrific student work on display is characterized by the use of traditional media including painting and drawing with a twist, influenced by diverse contemporary artistic and cultural forces, ranging from Tucson happenings to Japanese anime, all guided by the capable talents of their teacher, well-known Tucson artist, Simon Donovan.

ArtWORKS! Academy is a TUSD Alternative High School that serves Tucson high school students who demonstrate talent in the visual arts but are at-risk of dropping out. Arizona has the highest teenage dropout rate in the United States among 16 to 19 year olds, but ArtWORKS! provides an alternative academic experience, engaging students in learning by nurturing their artistic creativity.  ArtWORKS! students do academic course work in the mornings; and in the afternoons they study painting, drawing, ceramics, sculpture, printmaking and photography with professional artists at the Tucson Museum of Art.

The ArtWORKS! Academy operates through a partnership between the Tucson Pima Arts Council, Tucson Unified School District and The Tucson Museum of Art School. The program consists of academic educational experience aimed at completing requirements for high school graduation, and practical and creative training in artistic techniques in design, ceramics and mixed media. ArtWORKS! Academy motivates at-risk students to complete high school while increasing their self-esteem and self-discipline by tapping into their innate creativity and talent for artistic expression, expanding their academic abilities and providing work force development. ArtWORKS! is currently housed at and shares art classes with The Tucson Museum of Art School. Through this new partnership ArtWORKS! Academy has the potential to become a national model.
