Contents: John Burr:
In his new series of plein aire landscape paintings John Burr's works emerge from the ground of objective experience and spirit us off to a domain beyond reality. Burr's expressively rendered scenic images celebrate the magical experience of our sense of place that can exist both behind and in front of a painted, described, or imagined thing. Composed almost exclusively of gestural, thumb like brush strokes and saturated colors that are suggestive of light and atmosphere, each scene appears to be motivated by fresh forms and harmonies. Burr's pictorial script, composed of freely rendered brushstrokes, his vibrant palette and gestural forms, are metaphors for the act of painting itself. Burr brings his touch and glance to the quality of light and shadow as it glances off the often inconspicuous, lyrical aspect of things.
