Contents: Doug Shelton: A study in stylistic contradictions, Shelton has been variously called a Surrealist, Hyper-Realist, and romantic painter. Shelton’s narrative paintings are intricately rendered works that withhold their meanings in various compositional juxtapositions of unlikely objects and paradoxical settings.
Beginning with a private teacher in Des Moines, Iowa, Shelton studied at the American Academy of Art in Chicago and earned his BFA at the Chicago Art Institute. With over 20 one person showing in Iowa, Illinois and Arizona, 26 group shows in the Midwest and Southwest, many commissions, including ceiling murals in the House Wing of the U.S. Capitol, and a dozen corporate collections, Shelton now lives and works in Tucson.
